Celebrating Literature, Empowering Communities

The 2025 Limpopo Book Fair marks our most inclusive and ambitious edition yet — a six-day celebration of books, creativity, and community. This year, we’re taking literature beyond traditional venues and into the heart of rural and urban communities across Limpopo.

VISION & MISSION BEHIND SOUTH AFRICA'S GROWING LITERACY

Why the Limpopo Book Fair Exists:

Our Vision

To position Limpopo as a nationally recognized hub for literary excellence, where stories are honored, diverse voices are amplified, and the life-changing impact of reading and writing is celebrated across generations.

Our Mission
  • Create a platform for South African authors, publishers, and literary professionals
  • Promote a strong reading culture across Limpopo
  • Celebrate indigenous languages and cultural heritage through literature
  • Empower emerging writers and develop young literary talent
  • Foster educational excellence through competitive literary games and community programs

Community Circuit: Bringing Books to People

Days 1–4 of the fair are dedicated to community-based literary outreach across five locations: Polokwane Central, Seshego, Mankweng, Lebowakgomo, and an additional rural site.

Daily Programming Includes:

Morning:

The morning kicks off with a warm welcome, followed by a vibrant theatre production showcasing local folktales and a lively puppet show. Learners then engage in interactive literacy games, including phonics and SATPIN challenges, before transitioning into fun, educational numeracy games facilitated by Funda Wande.

Midday:

The midday session invites learners into the world of storytelling through captivating tales from master storytellers and animated read-alouds of picture books. This is followed by interactive story circle games that spark imagination and creativity—children pass the story ball to build an adventure, act out scenes from the day's stories, and create playful rhymes in a fun, collaborative setting.

Afternoon:

The afternoon wraps up with Our Literary Harvest—a joyful story celebration where children reflect on the day’s experiences and share their favourite moments. It’s a vibrant close that reinforces learning, encourages self-expression, and celebrates each child’s unique connection to storytelling.

These sessions are designed to deliver impactful literacy engagement directly to under-resourced communities, with storytelling, author visits, book donations, and more.
